If you are opening a new business or if ownership changes, a St. Tammany Parish Occupational License is required before the start of business.
Businesses that are physically located in the unincorporated areas of St. Tammany Parish are required to carry a current occupational license and renew it annually thru our office. There are also a few items that must accompany any new application:
- An approval letter from the St. Tammany Parish Planning & Zoning Department (985-898-2529) for the business address.
- Copy of business owner’s Driver’s License
- If incorporated, a copy of the Articles of Incorporation from the LA Secretary of State
Louisiana sets forth the following Occupational License Tax Tables to use when figuring how much your annual license will cost. Initial license fees are $50 (Jan 1 - June 30) or $25 (July 1 – Dec 31). These licenses are temporary and are good for only the first 30 days of business. Upon their expiration, businesses are required to supply a report of their sales for the first month so that an annual license fee can be computed.
- Companies selling or having sold insurance policies within St. Tammany Parish owe an insurance premium tax annually. These payments can be submitted online via electronic bank draft. It is free and available 24/7.
