With communities across the country facing unprecedented challenges, US Foods ® harnesses the power of food to empower communities in need with nourishment and opportunity.
As an extension of our promise to help our customers Make It, our Helping Communities Make It program enables US Foods to help meet the growing needs of this moment and make a meaningful difference where we live and work. Our efforts are focused on the areas where we can continue to make the greatest impact:
Hunger Relief – We believe we can help eliminate hunger in our communities. As a leading foodservice distributor, US Foods is uniquely positioned to help ensure food gets to the individuals and families who need it most. Throughout the year, we donate cash and product to Feeding America ® food banks and other hunger-fighting organizations across the country who share our mission to nourish those facing food insecurity.
In July of 2024, we announced an exciting new partnership with the Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN) with a monetary contribution of $250,000. This is our first national hunger relief partnership supporting military families – a group disproportionately impacted by food insecurity. We selected MFAN based on the nonprofit’s innovative program, the MFANetwork, which connects military families to critical resources, through collaborative, impact-driven and authentic community engagements. According to MFAN’s 2023 Military Family Support Programming Survey, more than a quarter of active-duty military families (27.7%) have experienced food insecurity. Our funds will directly support MFAN’s Permanent Change of Station (PCS) Pantry Restock Box and Fresh Funds program, which connects military families to food and economic security resources during moves from base to base, a time when they are most vulnerable to food insecurity.
In September of 2024, we announced an expanded national partnership with Feeding America, the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States. As part of our expanded partnership, we provided Feeding America with $750,000 to expand their highly innovative Direct to Neighbor locker project into seven additional communities by the end of 2024. The Feeding America Direct to Neighbor locker project is one of the most innovative food access projects in the country, providing more convenient and dignified hunger-relief support for community members experiencing food insecurity. With more than 44 million Americans – including 13 million children – facing food insecurity in the United States, we are honored to support Feeding America on their journey to bring innovative solutions for combating food insecurity to communities across the country.
Culinary Education – We believe we can empower the next generation of culinary talent. Our US Foods Scholars program awards financial support and professional development opportunities to outstanding students who need additional resources to pursue careers in the foodservice industry.
Disaster Relief – We believe we can enable communities to recover faster. As an Annual Disaster Responder Program partner, US Foods aids in the sheltering and feeding of those left vulnerable in times of emergency and disaster by helping to ensure that the American Red Cross has the resources they need year-round to quickly mobilize before disaster strikes.
